Chaired by Ambassador Mohamed Basyouny – deputy chairman of the Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs and National Security- the committee held a morning meeting on Monday 22 March 2004 to discuss the atrocious attack and the barbaric crime committed by Israel by assassinating Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, spiritual leader of Hamas Movement and one of the prominent leaders of the Palestinian national liberation movement.
Seriously condemning the Israeli crime “Assassinating Sheikh Ahmed Yasin and his followers”, the committee affirms the following:
This barbaric crime is but a real incarnation of the Israeli policy that defies both international community and international legitimacy and that violates the simplest human rights and the U.N. resolutions as well. Led by Sharon, Israel goes on in its paired policy talking about a unilateral pull out from Ghaza and eliminating settlements while in fact they commit assassinations and brutal aggression against the Palestinian people and their leaders to abort any step towards peace.
- The committee affirmed that Sharon’s government is no longer qualified as a responsible partner and that it moves in haphazard, violent and escalating directions regardless to whatsoever the consequences on peace process or the region’s stability.
The committee, denouncing this barbaric crime being a serious aggression not only against the life of a prominent Palestinian leader but also against all efforts of peace and its possibilities, calls for:
The Arab peoples to unite and work together to support the Palestinian people in their heroic battle and resistance.
All the Palestinian organizations and factions to disregard all variances and unite before all the incalculable aggressions of Sharon’s government.
The international community to seriously work to activate the road map plan to reach an agreement binding to all parties and to establish an international mechanism to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy and to support the just cause of the Palestinian people and their right to establish their independent state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital.
The U.S.A. to undertake its responsibility in dealing with the Israeli practices and in taking a serious attitude towards the Israeli practices as this criminal operation will lead to an incalculable position of violence and chaos.
The committee stresses its backing to President Mubarak’s balanced and wise positions that made Egypt represent the voice of reason and wisdom in the whole
world with a position complying with its morals and values and its original Arabic and Islamic affiliation.
The committee also stresses its backing to the wise decision taken by President Mubark canceling Egypt participation in the Kenest’s celebrations to commemorate Camp David Peace Accord as a protest against the assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yasin |
