Statement Issued By |
The
Position Towards The Iraqi Question
|
|
|
|
Chaired by Dr. Fathy El – Baradey, the Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs and National Security held two meetings to discuss the position towards the Iraqi question and issued a statement confirming the following : The
Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs and National Security; -
As it backs the
immense efforts exerted by President Mohamed Hosny Mubarak and his
contacts with all the concerned parties to avert war and to achieve
stability and security in the region… -
And as it also
backs the international efforts to avoid military solution to this
question… -
And as it warns
that the Iraqi question has reached a grave stage that demands responsible
Arab and international positions towards reaching specific resolutions
capable of influencing the current course of events… - And as it confirms that the extraordinary Arab Summit as well as the European Summit are held in most critical and dangerous circumstances under growing potentials of war and the grave consequences that could result from the possible military strike to Iraq, not only on the region but also on the whole world, and that could lead to the escalation of terrorist operations and world instability…
Therefore, -
The Committee,
motivated by its concern about the interests of the brotherly Iraqi people
who suffer from internal catastrophic conditions and severe international
pressures, calls upon the Iraqi government to cooperate more fully with
the international inspection teams
in accordance with the U N Security Council resolution 1441 so as not to
provide a pretext for an armed attack and also to contemplate within the
different frameworks that could provide a solution to deal with the
current impasse. -
Calls upon the Arab
Countries to exert all possible efforts to spare Iraq and the region the
eruption of a new war capable of causing heavy material and human losses
and uncertain political and economic
effects as well as a severe status of regional instability and
surpassing with its effects the Middle east to international conditions of
the same intensity which have been realized by many countries in different
regions of the world and thus the Committee calls upon these countries to
provide opportunity to inspection teams to fully accomplish their task.
-
Demands the USA to
respond to both international and popular will that supports peaceful
solution through international legality and to give UN inspectors their
chance to implement the UN security Council resolution 1441 and spare
humanity the gravity of war. -
Confirms that arms
inspection in Iraq is to be a beginning to clear the Middle East from mass
destruction weapons according to the UN security Council resolution 687
article 14 and complying with President Mubarak’s initiative in April
1990. Calls upon the national parliaments in different countries to urgently respond to their peoples’ will that fully reject the military solution to the Iraqi question and adhere to international legality for the maintenance of world peace. |
