The American Threats To Iraq And The Need To Clear The Middle East From Mass - Destruction Weapons

The Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs and National security chaired by
Dr. Mohamed Fathy El- Baradey held a
meeting on Sunday October 13th, 2002 to discuss the
American threats to Iraq, and the need to clear the Middle East from
mass-destruction weapons. The Committee issued the following statement : The
Committee on Arab And Foreign Affairs and National Security; -
As it hails the determined
efforts of President Mohamed Hosny Mubarak to achieve stability and
national security for all the peoples in the region, the attitudes he
always reaffirms on various occasions
to maintain the balance of regional powers and his determined
efforts to support issues of eliminating mass-destruction weapons in
general and in the Middle East in particular. -
And as it backs President
Mubarak's initiative on April 8th, 1990
to declare the Middle East a mass-destruction weapons free zone with no
exception of any of the region's states. -
And as it backs the primary, firm and clear Egyptian attitude
rejecting militarily striking Iraq. -
And as it indicates that the
Middle East is one of the hottest areas of tension in the world due to the
Israeli occupation of the Arab land and their non-conformity with the U.N.
resolutions related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, their negative attitude
towards peace talks and their non-compliance with the agreements they
already signed. -
And as it warns against
the disastrous consequences resulting from not clearing the region
from mass-destruction weapons that may lead to real chaos in the region
and to imbalance of powers. -
And as it asserts that
mass-destruction weapons issue is not only related to Iraq but also to all
the region's countries ahead of which comes Israel as it is open to doubt
that any of the region's countries possesses mass-destruction weapons
whereas Israel's possession of mass-destruction weapons is a constant fact
known by all the countries exerting pressure for Iraq's disarmament and
thus Israel with all its possession of these weapons represents a grave
danger that directly and certainly threatens the whole region. -
And
as it regrets the absence of the principle of justice in international
dealings by setting Israel apart from adhering to the international
resolutions issued by the U.N. Security Council and General Assembly and providing Israel with eternal protection from any
sanctions, thus undermining international relations. -
And as it views with grave
concern the threats prevailing the region and the persistence to find
justifications to launch war, thus threatening with uncontrollable dangers
and woes that can extend with its disastrous consequences beyond the
Middle East borders to all international interests. The
Committee : therefore, -
Calls upon Iraq to respond to
the international claims to proceed with the work of international
inspection teams, thus averting raised questions about mass-destruction
weapons in Iraq and not to hinder the work of these teams so as not to
give any pretext for a military strike of an unlimited destructive effect. -
Calls upon the international
community to consider the proceeding with unconditional international
inspection represents a solution, sufficient for the Iraqi crisis and
therefore helps to avoid any chances of military action in the region. -
Calls upon the international
community to ensure that not any country is entitled to move towards
overthrowing the political regime of another country which is an authentic
right of the peoples.
